We can go further than this. In 'Dayspring Mishandled' the forger is of course Geoffrey Manallace; in one of Michael Innes' novels, a character collects Manallace, and a forged Manallace is palmed off on him. Can't remember the title of the novel, alas! I think it is 'Silence is Observed'.
