Fully agree with you that there's a lot more to ERM than buying ERM
software. There's an interesting guide to "Good practice in managing
electronic documents using Office 97 on a local area network" available on
the PRO website (link below). This is a valuable starting point for all
organisations.

My comment is that too many times technology is purchased to provide a
solution when the actual processes haven't yet been fully developed. Your
records management program should stand by itself first before you purchase
any kind of enterprise/document management software. I started a records
management program and successfully ran it for years using word processing
software and before that just on paper. In short, document all your
processes and if you need to purchase software to address these processes
and not the other way around. Cheers!
