'Tackling Health Inequalities: The contribution of the Public
Health Observatories'
RSVP attendance essential (UCL venue to be confirmed)
Abstract
The London Health Observatory is one of nine Public Health
Observatories (PHOs) established following the White paper "Saving
Lives. Our Healthier Nation." The presentation will describe the
functions of the PHOs and their relationship to researchers and public
health practitioners , and in particular LHO's lead role in health
inequalities. It will give examples of work the LHO is currently doing
nationally and in London in the field of health inequalities and ethnic
differentials in health and health care.
Dr Jacobson was appointed as the first director of the LHO in
February 2001. Prior to this she worked as Director of Public Health
in East London and the city health Authority for seven years. Dr
Jacobson is well known for her work on tackling health inequalities
including numerous books and publications on the subject.
