I don't know how much of a "first" this is, but it's a first in terms of
what academic event announcements I have seen.
Lennard Davis is listed among 7 panelists for a discussion titled "Who
Owns Diversity?" at New York University, Thursday April 24th, at 5 to 7
PM.
Event address: Fales Library, Bobst Library, 70 Washington Square
South, 3rd Floor, NYC. For info call 212-992-9540
Sponsored by NYU's CSGS, Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality,
of the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program.
Description from web site "A panel discussion about the meanings,
deployments and effects of the term."
I recognised Lennard's name as a DS scholar; I don't recognise any of
the others as such, which doesn't mean there might not be more on the
list: Rabab Abdulhadi (CSGS, NYU), Christine Harrington (Law and
Sexuality, NYU), JJ Jackson (Associate Provost for Institutional
Engagement), Robin D. G. Kelly (History, NYU), Mary Louise Pratt
(Spanish and Portugese, NYU), and John Kuo Wei Tchen (Asian / Pacific /
American Studies, NYU).
From the web page www.nyu.edu/fas/gender-sexuality/events/events.html
Transit -- The nearest accessible subway stop is West 14th St. on the
8th Ave. A/C/E lines. (About 10-15 minutes away: Go south 9 "short
blocks", and then go east three "long blocks".) The nearest
inaccessible type subway stops are West 4th St. (many lines), on the N&R
Broadway line the 8th St. stop, or on the Lexington Ave. #6 line the
Astor Place stop. Public busses in NYC are liff-equipped.

If anyone reading this happens to be planning to go to this event,
perhaps we could get together to talk / eat before the event. My voice
