Dear David,
Here, at the University of Surrey Roehampton, I run a monthly series of
postgraduate workshops, culminating in an informal conference in June. This
year it is being held on Friday afternoon-Saturday, 20-21 June. I have not
yet finalised the talks, though as the speakers will be drawn from my M.A.
and Ph.D. students, I know the themes that will be covered. They include
crime, poverty, rural society, and family and inheritance. As my title in
Prof. in Local and Early Modern British Social History, local historians
will find the topics particularly interesting. There is no cost for the
conference but those going to dinner on Friday night (Taste of Raj) pay for
their own meal (or rather pay a share of the total bill!). People staying
overnight will have to find their own accommodation, though if I knew well
in advance, I could book someone into a guest room in a hall of residence.
Anybody who is interested is welcomne to come. Last year, one of Chris
Dyer's students at the English Local History Dept. at Leicester came and
enjoyed the event. This year he is giving a paper!
Best wishes,
Pete Edwards
