INTRODUCTION TO USING CLEA
Course Aims
This one-day course will enable you to use the recently released CLR 7, CLR 8, CLR9, CLR10, CLR9 TOX, and CLR10 SGV guidance to assist you in assessing the risks to human health from contaminated land. CLR 9 provides the basis for selecting the toxicology inputs into the CLEA model, and other risk assessment tools. CLR 10 describes the scientific, and technical basis of the CLEA model. Course Objectives
By the end of this course you will be able to:
ü Understand and appreciate the background research behind the model
ü Understand the applicability of CLR9, CLR10, and CLEA 2002 in both Part IIA and Planning
ü Use CLEA soil guideline values and be able to determine when the use of the guideline values are appropriate or not
ü Understand why ICRCL values are no longer appropriate to use.
ü Use the CLEA 2002 software

This unique course is ideally designed for Regulators, Consultants or individuals who have a keen interest in human health risk assessment, but specifically in the use of the LR reports and CLEA 2002 software.

Dr Paul Nathanail MA (Cantab) MSc DIC PhD CGeol FGS or Ms Caroline McCaffrey BSc MSc. Dr Nathanail is the Course Director of the EPSRC IGDS sponsored MSc in Contaminated Land Management, and runs the Land Quality Management research group. Ms McCaffrey is the Head of Contaminated Land and Dr Nathanail is Managing Director of Land Quality Management Ltd that employs specialists in contaminated land and waste management.
