Subject: Invitation to the CEN/ISSS Open Meeting: "Digital Rights
    Management, CEN/ISSS Report"
    Importance: High

    Dear All,

I am pleased to circulate the programme of the CEN/ISSS Open Meeting
on "Digital Rights Management, CEN/ISSS Report , to be held on the
7th February 2003 at the Diamant Business and Conference Centre,
Bld. Auguste Reyers 80.B 1030 Brussels.

Digital Rights Management is a complex area from a technology point
of view, and recent or current standardization activities have
involved many major sectors, including content providers
(publishers, broadcasters, film, etc.) hardware and software
providers, etc., in many different standards groups, including both
formal standards bodies and business consortia. CEN/ISSS formed an
open Focus Group, with the objective to prepare a report on the
state of the art in standardization of digital rights from different
perspectives, and this Group, which has over 100 companies and
organizations represented, is now finalizing the first draft of its
    report.

The draft report will be made available around the end of January
and placed on the web for public comment. It will be presented to
the Open Meeting, whose main objective is to consider the draft and
identify further issues. Following the Open Meeting and public
comments, the CEN/ISSS DRM Group will finalise the report and
publish it, also submitting it to the European Commission, whose
request prompted the creation of this activity.

The meeting will therefore interest a wide range of participants,
and early registration is recommended. If you would like to
register, please send the attached registration form to Ariana
Zeuuw-Mina ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>)
by 3 February 2003 at the very latest.

A copy of the programme is also published on CEN web-site at:
    http://www.cenorm.be/isss/DRM/Invitation.htm

    Best regards,

>This is a call for volunteers who would be interested in drafting a PAR
>(Project Authorization Request) to create a new Working Group (WG) in the
>IEEE LTSC focusing on Digital Rights Management Expression Languages
>(DRELs). Per the motion that was passed during the IEEE LTSC meeting in
>Copenhagen on Dec 11, 2002, the goal of the proposed WG would be to issue
>an IEEE LTSC DREL technical report "consistent with the discussion" held
>during that meeting. The said discussion resulted in an agreement to set up
>a WG to consider the current and emerging DREL "standards" and to identify
>the additional DREL requirements needed for education and training. These
