We're collecting VLE usage data on a termly basis for each course area. This is the first stage in geting some fairly crude feedback to depts of student usage of their materials. I too will be interested in more sophisticated methodology here.

Subject: Measuring VLE usage
Has anyone developed a strategy for collecting statistics on, and thereby evaluating, VLE usage in their institution? I'd like to know, for example, how many different users access each topic area, what kind of user (staff/student), and perhaps some detail as to what facilities they use whilst logged on. Time of day/week and whether the access is remote or from within the College might also be useful.
We're using the LearnWise VLE, but I'm in interested in the methodology generally, ie how to measure the kind of changes and benefits we're hoping to get from VLE usage. Does anyone have good practice or suggestions they'd like to share?
Tony Delahunty.
