Hello list,
If you're interested in issues around MLEs and linking systems together;
please come along to the CETIS Enterprise SIG Meeting at Crewe on 22nd Oct (as
mentioned in an earlier email by Nigel Peet).
JISC are about to launch a new development programme focusing on E-learning
Frameworks and Models; and Tish Roberts from JISC is coming to the Enterprise
Meeting to discuss the programme and encourage participation from the
community. The purpose of the programme is to develop a generic architecture
for linking e-learning systems; drawing on existing and new work, and
identifying problems and gaps in the existing frameworks and software. It
would be great to get as many people as possible along to input into this new
programme.
Nigel Peet will also be talking about a current project at South Cheshire
College, Crewe, which is enabling their college systems to communicate; and
Scott Wilson of CETIS will be giving a in-depth presentation on Web Services;
the next wave in inter-systems interoperability.
Please come along, and add your input and influence; details are below,
Vashti Zarach,
CETIS Enterprise SIG Coordinator

Background info
CETIS (Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards) has 8
SIGs (Special Interest Groups), which gather together people engaged with
learning technology in the UK, and discuss interest areas relating to e-
learning standards.
The Enterprise SIG is nominally concerned with the IMS Enterprise
Specification; an e-learning standard for transferring basic data about
students between systems such as Student Record Systems (SRS), Virtual
Learning Environments (VLEs) and digital libraries. However, the SIG also
engages with the crucial issues of how to join up VLEs, libraries and
administrative systems to provide fully integrated Managed Learning
Environments for students and staff.
Hope you can attend,
Best regards,
Vashti Zarach
