Hello Nicola and all
A few examples that we know of off the top of my head. I'm sure we
could get you more with a bit more digging.
The Shropshire 14-19 pathfinder is trialling a region-wide MLE and may
be a good starting point for comparisons between school and college use.
The Pathfinder details can be found at:
http://www.dfes.gov.uk/14-19pathfinders/pfdetails.cfm?pf=12.
The London Grid for Learning (which pulls together all the London
boroughs for school education) has had a portal/VLE running for a couple
of years now and may also have some interesting material. I know they
were initially thinking of extending access and functionality to
colleges, but not sure whether this has yet happened.
Colchester Institute have just implemented a pilot of their VLE/MLE
across the college with a view to implementing online learning for
students.
Parrs Wood Technology College in Manchester have been enabling out of
hours access to online learning resources for some time - they were one
of the early successful implementers of thin client technology to allow
home access. Given the type of school they are, I imagine that they
will have gone down the structured online learning route in a big way.
See http://www.becta.org.uk/etseminars/060302/parrswood.pdf for the
ground work they did several years ago.
Hope helpful
Amanda

Subject: Using VLEs with 16-18 year olds
Remember that replies go to the entire list!
********************************************
I am currently researching into the use of VLEs with 16-18 year olds. I
am looking to develop an online module using WebCT to help AVCE/GNVQ ICT
students to develop the necessary skills to succeed in learning online.
This would most probably be delivered using a blended learning approach.
I am really interested in what others are doing with this age group.
Any experiences or advice? What works or does not work with this age
group?
Regards
Nicola Hanson
