Hi all
The technical web person at our college was talking to me about this the other day, and has found this solution that works for most users - hope this helps

I am not on the VLE list - and following my managers email below - i can sympathize - I am being hassled with the same problem at present and surprise - surprise - they are all NTL customers!! (but not just Email access problems - they cant access the Intranets from home either!)
A Colleague I work with found a site called http://www.nthellworld.com - and from this site if you look at the bottom of the page you will find a link to Robin Walkers website:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/index.html
Click on Web Proxy Issues from the Menu on the Left:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/trancache.html#ntl
As we are based in Loughborough - the nearest Proxy Server is Notts and by random trial error we have found that the some of Notts proxys work for some, and some work for others - but from the list we found only these had some success rate:
inktomi2-not.server.ntl.com
inktomi3-not.server.ntl.com
inktomi4-not.server.ntl.com
inktomi5-not.server.ntl.com
Port setting: 8080
I would suggest trying to fiddle with NTL users proxy settings - its having some degree of success for us! - but not 100%
Hope this helps.

We've had similar problems here, nyself included. The solution is for users
to change their public proxy in the tools settings on their internet/NTL
browser. A list of available ones is at
tools.rosinstrument.com/proxy/
Alternatively, users should contact NTL support who should then guide them
to make the necessary changes to their proxy server settings

All,
Please could you advise…..
Before Christmas there was a lot of discussion regarding
difficulties with ‘outside users’ trying to access VLEs using NTL as their
ISP.
We have just upgraded our mail system to Exchange 2000 and are
experiencing difficulties with NTL users trying to Log in. Other ISPs are
fine.
Was a solution found????
Any comments gratefully accepted
