I use a mouse-wrist rest and find it makes a tremendous difference to my
own wrist strain. The gel pad provides great support and I find it very
comfortable. The cost is very reasonable so it's a worth-while
investment. I've found keyboard wrist-rests to be the opposite, making me
arch my hands and strain them more.
I have arthritis in my neck and have found that the mouse wrist-rest helps
with that too, as does a sturdy chair with a back which locks in place and
offers good lumbar support. A foot-rest is also valuable. Keeping the
rest of your body comfortable does seem to help to ease associated strains.
When my wrist and hand strain is particularly bad, slipping on a Tubigrip
support bandage helps tremendously. It took me a while to find a size
which comfortably supported without constricting, and this really does help
to ease aches and strains. I just cut a slit for my thumb and this
supports my wrist and hand up to the knuckles.
I hope this helps.
