ASCE Journal of Urban Planning and Development
A Special Issue on "Urban Public Transportation World Review: Challenges
and Innovations"
The urban public transportation systems of world cities are confronted by
various challenges in the face of expanding motorization, sub-urbanization,
fiscal constraints, politics, changing needs for mobility, and the
increasingly important issue of extending access to public transportation
systems. At the same time, many cities are introducing various innovative
schemes of planning, operations, policy making, and technology adoption.
This special issue is dedicated to review the recent developments, to learn
from experiences, and to find basic principles for the improved public
transportation for the 21st century. All modes of public transportation
are subject of consideration.
We solicit technical papers of the highest quality in the following
subjects for this special issue.
Planning methodologies,
Policy and concept of transportation systems,
Public involvement in decision-making for public transportation systems,
Interfaces between public transportation modes and integration with
pedestrian activity,
Management program,
Information processing and technology adoption,
Marketing, and
Operations schemes.
We encourage papers that refer to both theoretical principles and practical
experiences. Papers need not be a "success" story, but they should clearly
spell out the background, nature of innovation, results, and evaluation so
that they can be useful to the transportation community.
A panel of experts will review the submitted papers, and the ones with the
highest merit to the community will be selected and published. The paper
format follows the ASCE standards found in www.pubs.asce.org.
Deadline: 31 March 2003.
