Dear All,
The Transport Geography Research Group and its German equivalent, the AK
Verkehr are hosting two modules at the restyled Annual Conference of the
Royal Geographical Society in London, September 2003 (with the Institute of
British Geographers). Reflecting the high profile of both the event and
current transport issues, the aim of the modules will be to showcase the
latest work of international transport geographers and other transport
scholars.
We wish particularly to invite speakers to contribute State of the
Discipline-style presentations on transport geography in Europe, North
America, Australasia and beyond. Papers on important contemporary
developments in transport geography in its widest sense - from the role of
transport in economic development, to the spatial patterns of traffic and
issues concerning sustainability - will also be warmly received.
As one of the other key aims of the conference is to present the role of
geography and geographers in addressing some of the most pressing issues
faced by society, papers emphasising such a role will be particularly welcomed.
There will be a keynote speaker (to be announced).
We will publish papers presented at the conference, either in a special
issue of the Journal of Transport Geography, or as an edited volume in the
TGRG's Transport and Mobility book series.
Please submit abstracts of around 200 words by 30 April 2003 to: Dr Jon
Shaw, Chair, TGRG ([log in to unmask]); Dr Iain Docherty, Secretary, TGRG
([log in to unmask]) or Prof Dr Matthias Gather, Chair, AK Verkehr
([log in to unmask]). Full papers should be made available at the meeting
in September.
Many thanks,
------------
