Conserving carpets: cultural and inclusive exhibition of living and
labour areas (COCCINELLA)
COCCINELLA is a collaborative research project funded by the Leverhulme
Trust involving the Accessibility Research Group (ARG) in the Centre for
Transport Studies at University College London and the National Trust.
The project concerns the interactions between wheelchairs and carpets in
historic properties. The project will carry out empirical research into
these interactions in order to provide a robust basis for advice to the
National Trust on this aspect of non-discriminatory access to goods and
services. Applications are invited from researchers with experience in
the design, organisation and conduct of experiments and in the analysis
of the resulting data. The COCCINELLA research will involve working with
members of the public as well as experts in the conservation and
management of historic properties. The duration of the COCCINELLA
project is twelve months but it is envisaged that the successful
applicant will have the opportunity to work with the ARG on other
projects beyond this date. Sensitivity to access issues is essential and
an interest in the conservation of carpets would be an advantage.
