Jim Gray of Microsoft Research - Public Lecture 4th July 2003

Jim Gray is well known as the inventor of transactions which let us
simultaneously use databases. He was one of the pioneers of relational
databases when he did this, in IBM's System/R project that led to DB2.
He went on to build highly reliable systems by founding Tandem Computers
and now leads Microsoft's database research. His significant
contributions have been recognised with an ACM Turing Award.
The talk will take place at 3pm on 4 July in Lecture Theatre 102, Swann
Building, King's Buildings Campus, University of Edinburgh

**Call for Participation : Talks and Demonstrations at SC2003**
SC2003 will be taking place between 15-21 November 2003 in Phoenix
Arizona. The UK e-Science programme will be providing a demonstration
and auditorium space to showcase UK activities in the exhibitor hall on
18-20th November. We are currently collecting 'expressions of
interest' from members of the UK community that would be interested in
participating in this event. We will provide a demonstration and/or
lecture space and a pass to enter the exhibit hall. You will be expected
to fund your own travel and subsistence.
Please register your interest by 14/7/03. Stand content will be
finalised following the All Hands Meeting at the start of September.
