Attached is the latest National e-Science Centre newsletter.
Forthcoming Events at NeSC:
---------------------------
11 April - David Searls Visit
------------------------------------------------------------------------
David Searls, of GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals will be giving a talk
'Genome as Literature', exploring the literary and linguistic aspects of
the genome. The event is open for all to attend - to register:

22-23 April - OGSA-DAI Training Course
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a two day course on the functionality and capabilities of Grid
data services. The course is based on the initial reference
implementation of Grid data services produced by the OGSA-DAI programme
of work. Places are limited, to apply:

24-25 April - Grid Information Services workshop
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This workshop should be of interest to anyone using or developing
middleware which encapsulates information about e-Science and
Grid projects, their users, resources and applications. It is meant
to be a lively event, with a number of 1/2 hour talks and plenty of
time for discussion. Speakers will both focus on current activities
and overview future directions. The discussion may lead to further
collaborative work on Grid Information Services. We have several
overseas visitors who have already agreed to participate to
give a broad picture of the area. A provisional programme is
being put together and you can see this at:
http://dsg.port.ac.uk/events/workshops/gis2003.

28 April - eBioSci Open Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------------------
E-BioSci is an initiative funded by the European Union and led by the
European Molecular Biology Organization. This Open Meeting will
concentrate on development and innovation in E-science and BioInfomatics
and is open to any interested members of the BioInfomatics and e-Science
community, to apply:

2 May - 2nd International Lattice Data Grid Workshop
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the second in a series of workshops to co-ordinate the
development of lattice QCD grids and to build a global grid to support
international collaborations and data exchange. Open to members of the
Lattice Field Theory Community. Further info:

13-15 May - .NET Training
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Essential .NET presents critical issues required to build applications
for Microsoft's .NET platform and the Common Language Runtime (CLR)
using the C# programming language. The course has been designed for
programmers who already have experience with an object-oriented
programming language such as C++ or Java. The course introduces the most
important CLR-based programming such as type-oriented programming,
reflection, attributes, delegates, and events. You will learn many of
the core aspects of the CLR including AppDomains, Win32/COM interop, and
assembly resolution and loading. You will also learn how to access the
world outside the CLR using remoting, ASP.NET, and Web Services. Places
are limited, for further info:

16 May - Schemas and Ontologies: Building a Semantic Infrastructure for
the GRID and Digital Libraries
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This workshop, organised jointly by UKOLN and the UK e-science Core
Programme, will bring together GRID and digital library implementers to
consider approaches to developing, expressing and sharing schemas and
ontologies. For further info, and to apply:
