GridPP PMB Minutes 65 - 27th January 2003
=========================================
Present: Tony Doyle; Steve Lloyd; John Gordon; Robin Middleton;
Roger Barlow; Tony Cass; Dave Britton (part only).
Apologies : NB; PC.
GridPP licence?
===============
TD introduced the example GridPP licence complied by Andrew McNab which
was generated by an enquiry from Peter Hobson. Aspects to this were
discussed e.g. which legal entity should be put as the copyright owner and
the importance of including a disclaimer stating that the owners'
liability would cease if the software was used outwith GridPP sources.
Questions were asked about what would happen to the licence when
DataGrid/GridPP ends and where the copyright would go. RM said he would
raise this at the next meeting he has with DataGrid. TD hoped that SL
would mention it in his opening talk on Thursday and ask for feedback from
those attending.
TD asked if everyone could circulate outlines of their intended talks for
GridPP6. He wanted to make sure there were no gaps and that everyone had
a clear view of what our objectives are. He hoped that TC could include a
long term plan for CERN in his talk predicting what stage we would be at
in 18 months time.
It was hoped that people attending would understand the implications of
going from the prototype phase to the production phase, the underlying
infrastructure that will be used and the mechanisms to establish this. It
was also important that continuity of posts were built into the initial
tenders. The current £32 million bid was discussed and it was stated that
an increased fraction should go to fund staff for the experiments.
GridPP2 was reviewed and it was agreed that the scope of it had to be
defined in consultation with everyone working on GridPP. This would
include the applications side (being prepared by NB & RB), the build up of
the software framework and the roles of Tier-0, 1, & 2.
REVIEW OF ACTIONS
=================
SI-2 SL said he would speak to Roger Jones about a news item for ATLAS.
ACTION 35.4 : TD to contact sites which do not yet have a "green dot".
- ongoing - JG said Swansea would have a green dot soon leaving only 2
sites outstanding.
ACTION 37.3 : JG to review deputy job description.
- ongoing
ACTION 53.1 : RB to generate financial requirements for Babar.
- done - RB has sent a document to JG which specifies this.
ACTION 56.1 : SL to put the Long Term Planning information together.
(see ACTION 59.1) SL is still waiting for further input from others for this.
ACTION: 59.1 : PC & RM to provide further information to SL for Long Term
Planning document. Also required is a more detailed breakdown of Tier-1
staff from JG.
- done/ongoing - PC & RM have prepared an informal document explaining
what has been done and will release this now. JG is still working on the
breakdown of Tier-1 staff - TD suggested he view it from a historical
perspective.
ACTION 61.3 : JG to arrange dates and venue for second EDG tutorial
session in UK.
- done - Dates have been confirmed - 7th & 8th April. JG has asked if
Will Bell or Gavin McCance could attend.
ACTION 63.1 : TD to prepare and submit 3 slides for GRID workshop in
Brussels with an explanation that it has clashed with a GridPP
Collaboration Meeting.
- done - received info from RM & PC for this.
ACTION 64.1 : JG to follow up and report on clash between Tier policy
and general UK requirements.
- ongoing?
NEW ACTION 65.1 : TD to contact Keith Jeffrey to give him some input on PP
for Brussels workshop.
AOCB
====
TD said he would contact Keith Jeffrey from RAL to give him some input on
PP for the Brussels workshop (which clashes with GriddPP6) so we could
be mentioned at this event.
TD said that a NeSC event was taking place in Edinburgh on Jan 29-30 and
Caitriana Nicholson has agreed (at short notice) to do a presentation on
GridPP simulations at this.
SL said he would follow up the problem concerning the vacant post at one
of the institutes. He said that GridPP has been invited to give a
demonstration at the LeSC Open Day on 8th April. He has also been
invited to a seminar at IBM arranged by Spiked and hosted by Darron Green.
More than 70 are now registered for GridPP6. JG said there may be a
problem at GridPP6 in catering for everyone during the lunch break on
Thursday. (He said after the meeting that a solution may be to provide a
buffet for 15 in a separate room). Those who could travel home for dinner
would help to alleviate the problem in the evening.
TD asked if there was any feedback on Dave Colling's bid to the Royal
Society for a demo. (DB confirmed after the meeting that the proposal
had been rejected).
