I grasped at a line of light tonight
must have shone
through a window of the car
from a street lamp
or the moon
after I stopped moving
clutched at nothing
surprised for a moment
until I realised
then felt silly
for a second time
when I was driving
I had a small hallucination
for the duration perhaps
of an eye-blink
I was touching a breast
the last that I remember
I could feel it
familiar against the rasp of my face
and I drew lightly on the nipple
to circumnavigate it
with tongue
the way I used to do
to make it proud
then it became obvious
and I hadn't crashed
though I could have
I believe I really could have
that was the first time
there was nothing there today
and I felt foolish
I am dreading
going to bed
