Just a break from birds and things for a bit though one crept in. The book
in question is an old Penguin Modern Poets containing John Ashbery and two
others I can't remember off the top of my head.
AN OLD POETRY BOOK
there's the page just inside
the cover that has been a bright
yellow dyed look applied
from a freshly sourced
urine base and now part
of the paper's fabric,
the page in this way has
naturally aged - there is
no vile smell, only the
mustiness of age and a long
stasis on a bookshelf where
the spine was the only
identifier - now clear
of this confinement the poems
still glitter from the browning
pages of a slim Penguin.
