I smiled though at
the "Babe." I don't think I would tremble in anticipation if someone called
me "Babe." It kind of reminds me of Stanley in "Streetcar Named Desire."
But
that is personal.--Sue
Sue, thanks for seeing that. I looked at other choices - sweetheart, love,
darling, name or nickname - but none seem to have the grit and change the
mood that "Babe does.

Hmmm. Think you are right that becalmed is the culprint here. Is a sea ever
that smooth, that quiet, isn't it always in motion? Maybe sea is the wrong
simile?
Flaccid would probably have the wrong connotations!
Helen
Helen, this is a toughy, but while the sea make be in motion - rolling, from
our view it may appear still or flat. I've looked at other choices and went
back to becalmed for the moment. I think Barbara nailed the reason.

Silly man, why not just take the compliment? :)
Barbara
Barbara, cause I am silly, but more betta like many that do this thing we
do, unsure of self.

Barbara, you should make this a poem. I love "It barely
breathes." Sue
Ineed, please do.
Thanks all for the discussion and read.
