Hi all (who he?) may I briefly reiterate this list's attitude to copyright:

The text of all drafts of all stages of all poems posted to this list are
copyright to their author or, in the case of collaborative poetry such as
renga, rengay etc, to their authors.

The text of all critical commentary, and indeed that of all witty (and
otherwise) asides, is copyright to its originator.

By participating in this list it is deemed that a person may republish all
or any part of another author's poetry or critical commentary

                    ***on this list only***
and that it be

           ***for scholarly purposes only***

which is of course what happens when one uses the auto-reply functions of an
email browser and the text to which one is referring is carried over into
the new email.

It is important for all participants to understand that carrying any text
forward onto a new email - even for 'private' circulation - is an act of
republication and is in almost all circumstances illegal under both British
and US law. Such exceptions as do exist refer to the use of small portions
of a text for closely defined academic purposes. Clearly these stipulations
preclude the republication of the full text of a poem in any and all
circumstances other than when copyright permission has been expressly
granted.

Yrs, self important as ever, John
