My personal minimal sonnet definition is:
14 lines, each of 5 stresses;
a volta in the sestet, or in the couplet.
Less than this cannot be a sonnet, for me.
I've read a few sonnets that knocked my socks off, with no more form than
this; and many, many technically perfect sonnets that I thought were truly
crap poems.
Regards,
David
