The Game if there is a game might be to do a series about luggage and
containers, each beginning I am and ending with the wish to be another. The
set stands as

1. I am Luggage, the end a backpack - Gary

2. I am a Backpack, the end X

3. I am X, the end a brown paper bag

4. I am a Brown Paper Bag, the end a hand bag - Mary

5. I am a Hand Bag, the end a steamer trunk - Gary - Posted below.

6. I am a Steamer trunk, the end Y

7. etc

I left room for two between my first and Mary in case there was one and for
a good transition though backpack to brown paper bag would work also.

Everyone may play.

Smiles and good luck. I'm betting this one could go for 50 to 100 poems.

Gary

and on to the answer to Mary.

There are two endings, the first preferred, the second goes back to Mary's.

I Am Luggage IV: The Hand Bag

I am a hand bag
covered with rainbow sequins,
a long black fringe to finish my beauty,
But too small to hold
little more than protection,
a repair kit,
subway pass,
or three packets of white powder.
Ordinarily, tucked away
with silk scarves, velvet gloves
and semi-precious baubles,
until party time or a date.
Lifted from a dinner table,
pawned, sold for a coin bag
until thrown in a box of purses
in the back closet,
resold at Good Will
for a costume,
theatric,
bag for Barbie's shoes;
and lost on the playground,
I found a home in a squirrel's nest.

I want to be a steamer trunk,
room enough to hold silk, velvet,
robes, hand bags and the world's books.

Alternate ending:

I wish to be a brown paper bag,
paper twisted around a green bottle's neck.
