Yeh, this works!
It's made me not only think of the usual thing this signifies but lots of
other things, as well as commemorating a specific personal death of one
particular person...
... that the wide swathes of tarmac have killed off so many flowers too (&
the protests that are often held to prevent by-passes destroying rare plants
and trees in various places), and lots of other spin-offs too!
I guess because the piece mentions a motorway - where there's hours for
thinking - that prompts me, gives me permission, to think of other things...
