What we observe through our senses is all that we can know, the rest is
conjecture. Science is about those 'facts' observed and measured and
explained or used to explain the observable truth.
I will accept that there is something in us , in mankind, that tries to see
beyond the facts so far observed, tries to explain the unexplained.
Religion, Philosophy try to fill that gap between the observable 'truths'
and the 'Final Truth'.
I have personally moved from that 'aching to understand' mode to a resigned
'unknowingness'. I do not find this troubles me unduly.
Poetry is a way in which we, either as poets or readers of poetry. can make
some sense of the tumult and chaos of life. We can note the observed, record
it but do so in some manner that an individual understanding is found, an
aspect illuminated, albeit briefly, and communicated to others. It may be ,
Shah , that we talk about the same thing. You call it Atman, I call it
poetry.
I am also more and more convinced that in much the same way that a visual
artist sees the world in terms of line, mass, shape and colour and nuances
of those elements with a precision and insight denied to those of us not so
gifted, so too the poet views the world differently from those who do not
use poetry. I think we begin to live our lives poetically and that may
equate to Pure Consciousness.
Just some early morning thoughts. Regards Arthur.----- Original
