Frank the ratio is not cut in stone. The ratio is the norm for most sites.
No one I think is counting especially. Please do not allow this to stint
your input.
In a sense there is a rationale that guides the protocol in that those that
comment on other's poetry in turn attract comment to their own work, and the
reverse is probably true. A workshop List is not a showcase, as the Worm is.
This implies that the work submitted is inviting input from other
subscribers for a piece that they themselves do not consider as being yet
quite what they are aiming for. Input from many sources can help a poet
solve a problem that they have struggled with and perhaps does not even
recognise as existing. This is the purpose, I think, of this particular
protocol, Frank, do you not agree with the point it is making?? I am sure
you do.Regards Arthur.

Hi Arthur,
I note the 1 submission to 3 comments - I always thought it was 1:2, which I
have some trouble with, regardless.
May have to remain silent awhile, sadly.
Cheers,
Frank
There has been a bit of a turnover in the List population lately for one
reason or another so it will not harm to re –iterate some of the guidelines.
All mail sent to the site should be in ‘plain text’. If you use Outlook
Express this is done by clicking on ‘Format’ and
then clicking on ‘plain text’ on the drop-down menu.
If you submit one poem you should comment on at least three others.
This is an important protocol to bear in mind by those of us whose output is
copious.
The giving of criticism should be constructive and helpful. If
anyone feels the need to address someone’s work in a manner that is not
constructive and helpful this should be done back channel (b/c), which is to
do it by personal exchange of e-mails and not through the List.
The List is not a censor and subscribers are free to use whatever
language they choose. However, it has to be acknowledged that not everyone
wants to read what they consider to be offensive language, material or
themes. If anyone submits work that might be construed in that manner then
the poem should carry a warning as a precursor to the poem.
These are not rules. They are an acceptable protocol established when the
list was established. They ensure that the purposes of the site are met in a
friendly and civilised air of encouragement.
Thanks for reading and coping with me at my magisterial best. Arthur
