Hi Scott,
A fine poem! Even without knowing where it came from it works well, it
really offers insight into Catherine, her relationship with the person the
statue's modelled on, and how she understands the world where she lives (the
"open window facing west" is a fine allusion, but so are the rest of the
images!).
I'm taking the first line with me - "We shall make us a poet" - (in fact,
I'm taking the whole sentence...) with a delight because I'd never thought
of the insights of those who commission in such a way before...
And the Shelley/Ozi-whozit allusion at the end, for me, seems altogether
appropriate - but it is very noticable! (But, like all that's gone before,
it's inviting careful thought!)
It's canny!
