Hello Bob,
Short and sweet, is what I´d say of this one. I like the subtle and witty play with the whole question of writing (not just novels, of course) and lying/inventing. Is it the novelist in the poem or the poet writing it who´s doing it? So come on, who was the famous novelist?
Best wishes, Mike

One for yr C & C:
Fiction
I saw a famous novelist
in WH Smiths at lunchtime
as she twirled the postcard rack,
picked one out – the Transporter Bridge
lit in an evening sky - slipped it
into her pocket, then slowly
walked out. On the TV tonight,
when she was introduced,
I watched carefully while she
talked quickly and smiled.
