Rugs

You become lost in the rug's patterns,
your hair woven into the weave
tangled with lion manes and zebra tails.

Your fingers knot around the fringe,
your toes dig into leaves that decorate
gardens overgrown with silver thread.

Your thigh blocks a river's meander,
borders flooded, bears and elephants
driven to crowd the palace's jade gates.

Your shoulders dislodge lily petals
and knock lotus askew to drift down
your breasts, tickled by silk and roses.

You are lost in the carpet shop,
victim of another red tag, closing sale,
seventy percent off, free delivery, financing.

*The store manager asks you to leave,
your gyrations testing discounted rugs
more than his heart and mores can take.

We turn south towards Starbucks,
past a shop full of wooden furniture,
a cherry wood loveseat in the window.*

Your hands roam across oiled backs,
your legs clasp solid limbs.
