I just wanted to say that I don't agree that piss/peace reveals a
viewpoint. I took it as a reasonable portrayal of what a soldier might
think, as well he might, in the battlefield or at rest, about how things
are going: he might very well think 'piss or peace' at a bad moment,
while fully believing in the nature of the mission. In other words, at a
difficult moment a soldier could very well think 'is this going to be
piss or peace'.
