My Heart Belongs to Daddy
We foxtrot to Begin the Beguine
Hair pompadoured over forehead
some tendrils brush across my face
In soldier’s attire he holds me near
a daisy plucked for he
loves me he loves me not
The song shifts to Anything Goes
Our bodies drift within Cole Porter
like stars on an unclouded night
our moon so raw it’s not beheld
or a tsunami locomoting to nature’s cry
My father fought The Great War
My boy battles the war to end all
wars I a poet read Wilfred Owens
sense his assonance consonance
alliteration blatant on a fighting field
A tongue uncovers my ear licks
its hollow a bee discovers nectar
Swing shifts like continental drift
My Heart Belongs to Daddy plays
I giggle As in a movie we kiss
