Dear Mary,
Welcome to the list.
I'm sorry you felt you had got off on the wrong foot - I didn't see anything
wrong with your introduction, and I would be quite happy to call you any
name you prefer. It's a convention of online groups that nicknames are used
sometimes. In fact, in UK law, at least, we can all go by whatever name we
choose, so long as it isn't done with the intention of defrauding anyone.
Sometimes names that seem like normal ones are pseudynoms -people use
pen-names for all sorts of reasons.Someone posting as Jack Smith on a list
may have quite an exotic name offline.
When I first joined a poetry list, I used my nickname because it was
unisex- there were several intensely feminist authors on that group with
whom I didn't want to be associated - and it simply stuck.
Kind regards,
grasshopper

Subject: [THE-WORKS] Got off on the wrong foot!
Hello again...
I seem to have got off on the wrong foot reading the comments I received
after my first posting. (Songs of Love - Petrarchan Sonnet) so sorry about
that.
Ok let me try and redress this fact...
My name is Mary Lidia Evans, I am not a poet, as so many of you are, I am an
aspiring poetess. Although I do go by the name of LaPoetessa (a name
bestowed on me by my Italian mother) I have a long way to travel yet, on the
road to becoming a fully fledged poet, but my journey thus far has been
exciting and I have learnt much.
I have only recently started writing poetry (May 2000), but I do remember
writing a poem at the grand old age of eight. It was about Ratty and Mole
based on the story 'Wind in the Willows'. And now, some forty odd years
later I am learning about poetry form and structure, style and meter from
someone whom I respect and admire as both a poet and teacher.
The sonnet I submitted here was my first Petrarchan Sonnet, I wrote it only
a few months ago, but I have revised it only recently. I have written a few
sonnets since then in various forms but all in iambic pentameter, which is
part of a rigorous programme of learning I have set myself on.
As Arthur and others noted I do have a website, you can find it here
http://www/lapoetessa.com it's where some, not all, of my earlier attempts
as poetry reside.
And now, I would like to thank you all very much for you comments I will try
and respond to them individually in the next day or two as it is Easter Bank
Holiday.
Here's wishing you all a very happy Blessed Easter.
sincerely
Mary
