Deborah, I would never tell anyone to get out of the kitchen. But learning
to accept and reject as far as criticism goes is a real skill. If you are
too sensitive and show it, people will be afraid to be honest with you, and
then you would be the loser. If you have been writing for forty years, you
have a longer record of writing than I do. I don't enjoy being
misunderstood, nor do I enjoy what seems like very rough language. I much
prefer a little nit here and there, but mostly praise. It is strange but a
poet is deeply sensitive (the cause of writing), and yet in order to
progress, a thick skin is needed. Always take that second and third look at
what you do and if possible don't take too much personally. My good wishes.
