Choroset is the mixture of nuts, apples, and wine that represents the mortar
of the bricks that the Hebrew slaves were using in building for Pharoah; it
is for the Passover seder. A Hillel sandwich is the last part of the seder
before the festive feast; it is the crain (horseradish) being bitter herbs
that represent the tears of our ancestors during slavery and the choroset
between two pieces of matza, which represents the unleavened bread that was
the also called the bread of affliction. The bread is unleavened because we
did not have enough time to let the bread rise in our haste to flee Pharoah
after the death of the firstborn plague.

<< Morning Ryfkah. What a lovely beginning and I like the sandwich building a
lot too. I'm completely lost as to what a Hillel sandwich is but it sounds
very tasty. Is it vegetarian? What's choroset? I'm hoping it's not meat:-)
I wonder whether you might include a few notes at the end of the poem? I
haven't watched the News much for the last few days so I don't know what the
Mexican flag's doing in the poem. I'm left with the feeling that I'm missing
out a lot by not knowing the references. I do think it has all the right
ingredients though:-)
