Sally, Ryfkah, Colin, many thanks for reading and commenting;
I'm very happy you liked it.
Colin, yes, Ode on Intimations was very much in my mind.
Here's a revision.
Best wishes,
David
On Seeing "The Chamber of Secrets"
Though long ago, I still recall those rare
transcendent boyhood mornings when the world
was fresh, and dreams were living things: they swirled
and mingled with the magic in the air.
Grave little sorcerer, you make me smile
with all your spells and potions: every charm,
charged with such passion, shields your friends from harm
and takes me back to childhood for a while.
Time will not touch you. Even so, take care
to keep your youth, its comradeship and grace,
and I'll remember how your spirit shone
its light against the darkness of despair;
a talisman to guard us as we face
a grown up world with all the magic gone.
