I have never seen that. I have, however, seen pictures of the Kurds, men,
women and children gassed and lying contorted on the streets, dropped where
they were as if they had been caught immediately like the pathetic castings
of those taken in Pompeii, so many centuries ago. Today many of those same
Kurdish civilians are so damaged they cannot function or walk with crutches,
much like those blown apart by land mines. This was what Saddam Hussein
thought of them and his efforts of avoiding civilian casualties. The subject
came up of our President not being elected. In America we have an electoral
college system whereby states have so many electoral votes according to their
populations. George Bush won the electoral college vote; also, in Florida,
although this election was hotly contested and was finally decided by the
courts, it later turned out that George W. Bush did win the popular vote of
that state by 1,000 votes and thus the electoral vote. Furthermore the
Republicans won the mid-term elections in this country and have a majority,
though a slim one, in the Congress.
There is no dictatorship in this country and never has been. Perhaps you
need to read some books on government systems. At any rate, this is my final
word on the subject. I think more than enough was said last night. It is
strange about the word "pacifist." Half of it is made up of the word "fist"
and these are the people who seem the most irrational to me and the most
uninformed unfortunately, operating out of fear or some idea of moral
superiority. I at heart consider myself a pacifist, too, and I am not in
favor of war. But I have seen what happens to people who do not stand up to
bullies. I prefer to choose my religion and not have it forced on me by
jihad. I prefer to be able to speak freely and to bring up my children in a
free country not overshadowed by fear or terrorism. I do not want to see
the world quaking under threats of jihad and hatred that is taught to them in
schools, so much so that they will become human bombs in order to kill men,
women, and children, innocents out to ride on a school bus or shopping in a
department store. Sad world. Sue
