9/9/03.
Chaps,
Many thanks for the various congratulations on the new job.
I've not, however, been overwhelmed with volunteers to support Figaro.
So I thought that I'd put in an ad. on its behalf:
Mature, well-established, well-respected spectroscopy and image
processing package, originally from California, now settled in this
country after spell in Australia. Following amicable separation
WLT experienced Fortran support programmer. Age not important. Must
have GSOH.
Mark asked whether AstroGrid posts are tied to individual institutions
or can be located at the successful applicants' preferred place of work,
like the Starlink contractor posts. I thought that I might as well
reply here, in case it was of general interest. In the past the posts
have been tied to individual institutions in the Consortium, and
advertised as such. However, if anyone ever reached a point where the
issue is relevant I'd have thought that it would have been worth at
least raising the question of being located elsewhere. Though I'm unsure
how much success you'd be likely to have. AstroGrid posts allocated to
RAL could, of course, be offered to contractors in the same fashion as
Starlink ones, if RAL wished (which has been my situation for the past
few years, of course).
Incidentally, those with long memories might be interested to know that
Paul Harrison, who was a Starlink programmer many moons ago, has
re-appeared as an AstroGrid programmer at Jodrell.
regards,
Clive.
