All,
Some problems have arisen with the Starlink RedHat 9.0 CD distribution.
1. Mozilla
I added Mozilla as a browser to HTX, but due to a bug in Mozilla, when
issuing the command
% showme sun212 (say)
the url that appears in Mozilla is
file:///star/docs/sun212.htx/sun212.html%23xref_
which should be
file:///star/docs/sun212.htx/sun212.html#xref_
so the # gets mapped to %23. You can start Mozilla from the command line and
get the same effect,
% mozilla /star/docs/sun212.htx/sun212.html#xref_
The fix is to add explicitly the file:// before the path.
mozilla file:///star/docs/sun212.htx/sun212.html#xref_
Note, the new Netscape 7.1 does the same thing.
2. The Netscape browser is hard wired into some other packages (ccdwww,
say). Two what extent is the netscape command used in our packages? RedHat
9.0 now uses Mozilla by default on new installations and Netscape 4.x does
not come with RedHat 9.0. I could distribute the RedHat 7.3 Netscape on the
CD.
3. /star symbolic link dose appear to be needed for some of our
applications, in particular demos and tests (gaia and ccdpack demos for
example). I will be stating in sun212 that /star it is required and that the
installation should be done to /star (unless there are major complaints). I
will update the quick_install script to default to creating and installing
to /star.
4. Which packages export the test/demo data in the runsets? ccdexercise
dose not appear to run from the runsets, but runs from /stardev and /star
where the sources are present, ask Dave G. about the problem.
Steve.
