Probably true, though as Al remarked, this is really just JAC offering
to put whatever fixes are required into the repository, so it's not
really `supporting' it.
It may not be a big issue, however. I've been experimenting with
autoconf/automake/libtool recently. That basically works, and since,
as Tim has noted before in the context of his and Al's RPM work, the
Starlink Makefiles are well-standardised, I would anticipate it being
relatively easy to start using. The only downsides are that (a) it's
a bit mindbending first time (`you mean I have to write a file 2*(which
writes a file) which writes a Makefile?! And that makes it easy!?'),
and (b) if it stuffs up, you're _very_ much in the dark. However, OS
X is well supported by those, and I've found it works perfectly well
in practice on DUX and Solaris.

Ah yes, true enough. I'm pretty sure there's Tcl available, but I would
of course imagine that RTD would have some native X calls in it. Or is
there some other abstraction layer there, which might have been ported?
It's not a huge deal though. While an X server was a third-party
download, you'd probably get a good deal of resistance from Mac users
to being required to install it. Now there's an X package which comes
from Apple, folk would be a lot more willing.
See you,
Norman
