Dear John and all,
What are the advantages of using MODULATED images that have been
normalised using medium non-linear warping (for example, 7x8x7 basis
functions), over simply normalising images with an affine
transformation only?
Would I expect similar results between the methods, based on the fact
that both affine normalisation and modulation better preserve
region-specific inter-individual morphological variation? If I would
expect similarities, does this mean that analyses of grey matter
concentration (unmodulated, affine only) and gray matter volume
(modulated, basis functions) do actually quantify brain differences in
a similar way?
How would this impact on patient samples who have, for instance,
hippocampal atrophy?
Many thanks – I’m just thinking out loud.
Best wishes,
Simon.
