I am helping with an MRI study using VBM/SPM99. We are attempting to use
the "optimized protocol" outlined in the article "A Voxel-Based
Morphometric Study of Ageing in 465 Normal Adult Human Brains" (Good et
al). However, we have reached a problem in regards to the step mentioned
in the last paragraph of p23-24.
Here's the mystery. We want to normalize extracted GM & WM images to a
mean T1 template image created from all of our subjects with nonlinear
normalization turned on. Does this mean we should normalize each
separately? If so, then how do we combine the info for the next step, which
involves applying the .mat files from the normalization to the original
image in native space to create a "fully normalized" image. Or, should we
normalize them together (then, how do you combine the 2 input images?)?
