Career Development Fellowship in Auditory Brain Imaging
MRC Institute of Hearing Research, Nottingham, UK
The Institute of Hearing Research conducts world-leading research into
hearing and hearing disorders. We have a fellowship vacancy offering a
3 year planned period of training and development to conduct brain
imaging studies of cognitive influences on auditory function. We offer
a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment in which to develop new skills
and expertise in the rapidly evolving field of human brain imaging. You
will join a well established fMRI team that has unrivalled access to
imaging facilities at Nottingham University. You will also have access
to excellent in-house technical and computer support.
We offer opportunities to study in two areas: i) localisation of
function in the human auditory brain and ii) common mechanisms for
auditory and visual attention. For the second project, we particularly
encourage applicants who have expertise in the field of visual attention
and patient testing. In general, an understanding of the psychology of
hearing, and experience in experimental design and statistical analysis
of large datasets would be advantageous. Specific expertise in fMRI is
desirable but not essential as training will be given.
Applicants should possess a PhD in one of the following disciplines :
Neurosciences, Cognitive Psychology or Cognitive Neuropsychology. We
particularly welcome applications from those who have recently completed
their PhD training, or wish to move into this exciting research field
from a related discipline. As a successful applicant, you will be given
every opportunity to establish your reputation as a leader in this
field. The appointment is fixed-term for 3 years and will be to a
starting salary in the range £22,481 to £24,730 (pay award pending).
