SPM2 creates Posterior Probability Maps (PPMs) for the same voxels
that are in the corresponding SPM. To restrict the search volume
you would have to mask the data at the initial computation of the SPM.

I suspect it is taking a long time to perform the ReML estimation
of variance components required to create the PPM. This can take
a long time if you are analysing first-level fMRI data. We envisaged
PPMs would be used for PET and second-level fMRI analyses.
