hi - this is a bit off-topic, but I'm wondering if there is a
consensus among imaging groups regarding the best backup solution for
fMRI data. We are currently working on getting a new (linux-based)
file server with > 1 TB capacity, and are looking at several backup
options:
- tape library (VXA or SDLT)
- DVD writer
- a second mirrored RAID
The desired features (in order of desirability) are:
1. reliablility & survivability of backups
2. ability to automate backups (get the user out of the loop)
3. ability to keep offsite backups
4. price
clearly those options vary dramatically in where they fall on these
features. Any comments regarding the experience of other multi-user
groups dealing with backup of large amounts of data would be most
appreciated.
Cheers,
Russ
