We have used SVC in a number of papers. I think the main point is to make
sure the reader understands that you are performing a small volume
correction on a pre-selected region and not that you saw an activation and
then picked a small volume around it.
Here is the language we used in the methods from this paper:
Small DM, Gitelman DR, Gregory MD et al. The posterior cingulate and medial
prefrontal cortex mediate the anticipatory allocation of spatial attention.
NeuroImage. 2003;18:633-641
Activations were searched for at a mapwise threshold of P < 0.001
uncorrected and a cluster threshold of greater than 3 voxels. Regions were
considered significant at a familywise error of P < 0.05 corrected across
the volume for unpredicted peaks and P < 0.05 corrected using appropriate
small volume corrections for the location of predicted peaks.
