There are two possibilities,
1) create a matlab "***.m" file nad write something like var1 = [ x1 x2 x3.... x40];var2=[y1 y2 y3 ... y40] and so on. You can load this file with "Utils" -> "Run m-file" and the variables are in your workspace, so you can just enter the names of your variables, when SPM asks for the nuisance variables.
2) You can use a text file with the values and use the right mouse button and a sub-menu will appear with the option "load from text file"
