The Forum for Research in the Languages of Scotland and Ulster
is pleased to announce that arrangements for the Conference are now
approaching completion. The response to the call for papers has been
less than anticipated, and several papers which were offered at
earlier stages have had to be withdrawn. The conference will therefore
be on a smaller scale than most of its predecessors; however, the
quality if not the quantity of the academic and social sides promises
to uphold in full the standards which we expect.
The registration desk will be open from 4 p.m. on Wednesday 6
August, and the conference will open with dinner that evening.
Thursday forenoon and afternoon will be given over to papers and
discussions: there will not be parallel sessions. At the reception on
Thursday evening, we will have the privilege of hearing the
distinguished harpist Wendy Stewart. On Friday, after a forenoon of
papers, there will be a bus expedition to local places of interest and
an evening meal. Saturday 9 (not Sunday 10) will be the final day of
the conference, the last event of which will be a business meeting and
the Forum AGM in the early afternoon.
The conference fee of £75 (£65 for Forum members and students)
was calculated on the basis of a five-day event. In view of the
reduced scale of the conference, part of the fee already paid by
delegates will be set against the cost of accommodation and the social
programme. Delegates who have not yet informed me of their
accommodation requirements are requested to do so as soon as possible.
A paper copy of this circular and a map showing the location of
the Crichton Campus will be sent shortly to all participants.
The Forum Committee and the Campus staff look forward to
welcoming you in early August.
