The MIDLAND RAILWAY SOCIETY will be holding one of its periodic meetings
in the Darley Dale Room at the Midland Hotel, Derby (opposite Derby
Midland station), this coming Saturday, 22nd February.
The room will be available from 11,00 when you will be able to chat with
members, purchase books and Journals from the Society's extensive
stocks, etc., in a convivial atmospere.
The highlight of the day, however, will be a talk by Stan Hall, the
former Safety Officer at the BRB entitled,
'The Nottingham Division 1965 to 1970 - a Period of Unparalleled Change'
In this short space of time the area changed from one which still had
many features of the Midland Railway (and other railways), to one that
anyone who had been abroad for a decade would have found hard to
recognise. During this time there was the full changeover from steam to
diesel in freight work, rationalisation of signalling and the opening of
Trent and Derby Power boxes, closures of stations, marshalling yards and
lines (such as Matlock to Chinley), the introduction of merry-go-round
working and Freightliner trains, and a lot more.
Non-members are welcome.
If you need further information, please contact the Society Chairman,
[log in to unmask] or phone 0114-2364728.
Please note the change of venue from the Derby Industrial Museum as
originally advertised.
