NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM
Job Purpose
This post is a member of the Senior Management Team of the National Railway
Museum. The role is to support the Head of the Museum in the delivery of
the Museum’s Business Plan, in the context of the long term plan of the
National Museum of Science and Industry.
This role reports to the Head of Museum and the key elements of the role
include:
1. Management and development of the Museum at York
2. Delivery of objectives through partnerships with others, most notably
including the development and operation of Shildon Railway Village (in
partnership with Sedgefield Borough council).
3. Working in partnership with other Museums in the NMSI family towards
organisation-wide goals.
4. Providing some National Services for the NMSI family.
Applicants must have 7+ years experience of middle or senior management
roles, an ability to plan and use resources effectively and efficiently, an
understanding and application of financial monitoring and management.
Additionally they must have the ability to obtain, analyse and use complex
information for effective decision making as well as the ability to lead in
a change environment and able to plan, control and complete projects whilst
working collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders to deliver
outcomes in line with agreed strategy.
To be successful in this post, the postholder will need to be able to
demonstrate commitment and vision, together with the drive and enthusiasm
to lead and implement change effectively. Excellent communication and
negotiating skills will be essential, as will flexibility and a balanced
approach. Finally this postholder will need to have the ability to
challenge systems, processes and procedures that block or hinder progress.
